A taste of authentic Alpine life in Savoie

Set in the picturesque village of Peisey-Nancroix in the heart of Savoie, Les Lanchettes makes a great base for local walks through the wild countryside of the Tarentaise valley with its ibex, chamois and marmots as well as offering a range of outdoor activities including mountain biking, climbing and white water sports. In winter the site offers direct access to the cross country skiing course, the luge slopes and the magnificent skiing
area of Paradiski between Peisey-Vallandry, Les Arcs and La Plagne.

Well worth a visit

The chapel of Notre Dame des Vernettes, a baroque sanctuary built at 1816m above sea level. Set amid stunning mountain scenery, the chapel is located a hour’s walk from the campsite. The charming, unspoiled hamlet of Pracompuet with its excellent goats’ cheese is also well worth a visit.

Something different

The Bergerie du Rey farm above the resort of Peisey Vallandry with its cows, goats, rabbits, pigs, donkeys and poultry – a great trip out for all the family. Get a taste of real farming life in the Alps at first hand and sample locally made cheese, fromage blanc, jam, fresh milk and fruit juice.

Not to be missed

The Little St Bernard Pass with its hospice, the Chanousia botanical gardens, the Lac du Verney and magnificent views of Mont Blanc is a stunning Alpine pass connecting the Tarentaise valley with the Val d’Aosta. Press on a little further to Courmayeur and take the cable car across the foot of Mont Blanc up to the Aiguille du Midi at 3800m.

Get off the beaten track

Walking route

The Lac de la Plagne. Starting from the Refuge de Rosuel, this is a 2½ hour walk with donkey hire available in the Vanoise National Park. Take a break at the Refuge d’Entre-le-Lac to enjoy the wonderful view of Mont Pourri (3779m). Admire the waterfalls, go fishing in the lake and try and spot a marmot, lammergeyer, ibex or chamois en route.

Driving route

The Iseran Pass, the highest road pass in the Alps at 2764m, has become synonymous with the Tour de France – 47km from Bourg St Maurice. You can combine the drive with a trip to the impressive Chevril dam, the highest arch dam in France (181m), and the typical Savoie village of Val d’Isère.

Local festivals and events

The Fête du Costume on 15 August in Peisey and at the Refuge de Rosuel

One of the major events of the summer. The traditional parade of costumes and floats through the streets of Peisey is followed by various country dancing displays and the election of the festival queen against the stunning backdrop of the Refuge de Rosuel.

The Fêtes des Bergers at the Little St Bernard Pass in August.

This famous Alpine festival takes place every summer with a programme of Franco-Valdôtaine activities including an open air mass, a craft market and a variety of traditional folklore-related activities. The very special atmosphere is provided by the Italian cowherds whose cattle engage in traditional and spectacular Alpine cow fights for the prestigious title of “Queen”.
